Harvesting Seeds from Store-Bought Produce

There are many sources for seeds. The obvious sources are from your local garden center. In Edmonton, Apache Seeds is an excellent location with expertise around what to grow, when, and how to care for it. Alternatively, connecting with your friends and neighbours who are gardeners is a good option. With their permission you can harvest some of their seeds at the end of the growth season and plant them the following spring. In addition, many of the produce that you regularly purchase at the grocery store can have their seeds harvested and planted to grow into new produce. Some examples include;

  • Peppers
  • Ginger
  • Onions
  • Potatoes
  • Chives
  • Garlic
  • Tomatoes
  • Celery
